Body reshaping procedures

Liposuction is a very popular procedure with men and women keen to improve the shape and contours of the body by removing stubborn pockets of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise. I perform liposuction either as a separate operation or combined with cosmetic breast and body procedures.

Liposuction is not a weight loss strategy, it is designed to help smooth and tone areas of the body where stubborn fat is visible and unable to be targeted via other means. It is possible to perform liposuction on most areas of the body and even the face, but some areas respond best, particularly the tummy, flanks and hips.

Am I suitable for liposuction?

In the pre-operative consultations, the patient is assessed for suitability for a liposuction procedure, as liposuction works best for patients who have good overall health and fitness, whose skin has a reasonable level of natural elasticity and those who are of a good weight for their height and frame and also whether it can deliver the desired results.

During the procedure, an incision is made and a small tube is inserted underneath the skin to where the fatty tissue resides. The fat is sucked out through the tube and discarded, leaving a smoother, firmer appearance to the outer layer of the skin.

Get in Touch

If a patient has a lot of weight to lose then it is often sensible to delay a liposuction operation until the target weight has been reached (or is at least close to being reached).

Different approaches to liposuction

I typically perform tumescent or super wet liposuction, whereby an anaesthetic fluid is injected underneath the skin before the fat cells are removed. This approach tends to produce less bruising and is more comfortable for the patient.

Liposuction: risks and expectations

Risks with any form of liposuction include bruising and swelling at the extraction site, fluid leaks from the incision sites and scarring. There is also a chance that the results may not yield the firm, toned skin that is desired and some patients require a repeat procedure.

Maintenance is important after liposuction as it won’t prevent weight gain and associated body changes in the future, but patients are usually keen to retain the great improvement that liposuction can produce.

What my patients say about me

Mr Ramsey performed a breast reduction and abdominoplasty for me in October 2017. Prior to the operation, I had two consultations where the procedure was explained to me clearly and concisely. I was also talked through the possible pitfalls. I am happy to report that I am delighted with the results. The standard of the work is excellent. Obviously, you have scars after such procedures but these are incredibly neat and fading fast.

Mr Ramsey was very professional in the way he dealt with me while also being pleasant to talk to. He put me at my ease right from the start. I had total confidence in his abilities and he has more than lived up to my expectations. I could not recommend him highly enough.
